The West Hartford Taxpayers Association (WHTA) announces a contest for West Hartford taxpayers to offer cost saving ideas.  The reason for the contest is to encourage taxpayers to offer suggestions that can be considered and implemented by the Town Council and/or Board of Education to bring budget expenses down for next year.

Unfortunately 2010 will be another year with lower revenue for West Hartford and the town will have to cut spending.   WHTA is working with Town Staff, business and Tax Payers to find areas where cuts can be made.

The WHTA has been calling for spending cuts for several years.  Now we are asking you, the taxpayer, to tell us how you would cut town spending?

The WHTA will award prizes for the best ideas on how to cut town spending in this time of economic stress and unemployment. Your ideas and ours will be submitted to the Town Council and the Board of Education.

Local merchants are supporting this contest and have offered the following prices.  The contest award winners will be announced on Feb 15, 2010.  You can win one of these prizes by sending in your suggestions.

NBC News Story:

Giving up some town services could turn into a mini-spa day for one West Hartford resident and a day on the golf course for another. But first, they have to make some decisions on which services the town should cut back on or eliminate.

Towns across the state are having money problems, and West Hartford is no exception.

Now, the West Hartford Taxpayers Association is working with town staff, businesses and taxpayers to find areas where cuts can be made, and that includes a contest to generate cost-saving ideas.

Local businesses have pitched in help make this a success and are offering prizes, including a round of golf for four at Tower Ridge Country Club, a $100 gift certificate at Daswani Clothiers, a haircut and blow dry at Oggi Hair Salon and a pedicure at Nail Pro.All suggestions will be considered and sent to the town council or board of education to consider to bring budget expenses down for next year, according to the association.

The contest award winners will be announced on Feb 15.
